The Harry Partch Appreciation Society is a loose assemblage of mechanically-minded musicians endlessly in pursuit of the unheard, and sometimes the unseen. Inspired by the methodology and musical compositions of American Avant-Garde composer and instrument-builder Harry Partch, the Society chose his name as both a fitting moniker and homage. All instruments are original designs and are hand-assembled by Society members.

The only requirement for admission is that the prospective member build their own instrument and be able to play it in an ensemble, please inquire here.

NOTES:

Two "treble" strings are fretted while a lone "bass" string serves as a constant drone. Bending the strings bends the neck of the instrument which inturn changes the pitch of the strings. Two strap buttons have been attached to the instrument's body, allowing it to be worn during performance.

READYMADES:

HORN-350

CONSTRUCTION:

Vibratory electric horn controlled by a dual output power selector mounted on a wooden base.

FABRICATOR:

E. A. Shriver

NOTES:

The Vibratone Horn was appropriated by E. L. Shriver from the Newport News Shipyard at some point during the 1950s. These horns were installed on aircraft carriers as deck buzzers. The power selector was taken from an electric blanket and it's dual power settings create two distinctly different horn tones. Assembled by E. A. Shriver in 2014. It is used to signal the beginning and the end of each performance.
